T FORTIFIED FOR EXISTING HOMES (TM) AND FORTIFIED FOR SAFER LIVING (R) (NEW CONSTRUCTION) Fortified homes is a program developed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) that can provide a more hurricane resistant home when complying with their requirements. State law goes into affect May 1st 2011 mandating insurance premium discounts for homes that are designated under this program.
To apply for home designation, an on line application must be submitted at the above web site. Under the initiatives tab select residential, then existing homes or new construction to apply. Documents that will be requested for existing homes evaluation: (These documents are not required for the evaluation but can assist in determining the level of fortification obtained.) Current termite inspection results (within 12 months). Window documents indicating pressure/impact ratings. Door documents indicating pressure/impact ratings. Shutter documents indicating impact ratings. Ridge vent documents indicating wind rating. Roof covering invoice indicating date installed (if not original). Year the home was built documents i.e. copy of permits. Type of foundation.
